Victory Over Satan
Mark 1:12-13, “The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him."
The Bible teaches us that Jesus came as the second Adam. The Apostle Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 15:45, “The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” The first man Adam is the Adam we read about in Genesis. When God created Adam he had all that he needed in the Garden of Eden. He enjoyed the presence of God. Yet, he and Eve were tempted by the serpent who is satan the deceiver. They gave into the temptation and sinned against God. When Adam sinned death entered the world. The curse fell upon mankind. Adam was cast out of the presence and goodness of God. He was cast into a barren land that caused him much pain, toil and heart ache. In Mark 1:12-13 we read that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit of God. Jesus left Heaven and was led by God into the wilderness were He, like the first Adam, faced the tempter. Mark does not describe the wilderness temptation with as much detail as Matthew. Mark’s account is to the point. However, we know Jesus was tempted in the wilderness and unlike the first Adam He emerged from the wilderness victorious. Jesus was tempted, but did not sin against God. Jesus left paradise was led into the wilderness and did what the first Adam could not do. The first Adam could not overcome satan. Yet, the second Adam overcame satan. If you have trusted Christ Jesus as your Savior then you have overcome satan and will overcome satan.
