Pastor's Weekly Devotion
Mark 5:34, “And he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.’”
Yesterday afternoon my family and I gathered around the television to watch the Kansas City Chiefs compete for another chance to play in the Super Bowl. We watched as what seemed to be an impossible outcome earlier in the season become a reality. The Chiefs came into the game as underdogs. They were the three seed playing on the road without the help of the raucous fans at Arrowhead Stadium. The Ravens were supposed to be the team with all the defensive and offensive power. Last week they easily defeated the Texans in a lopsided contest. The Chiefs seemed to be a team of overachievers having struggled throughout the season. At times they played so poorly that a return trip to the Super Bowl seemed like an impossibility. But, somehow the impossible became possible. The combination of experience, coaching, defensive play and timely offensive production have the Chiefs booking their flight to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
One day a woman who had been sick for twelve years came to Jesus to be healed. She was desperate and broken. She had given all her money to physicians seeking healing and none of them were able to help her. She was facing what must have felt like an impossible situation. Yet, just when it seemed like all hope was gone she turned to Jesus. She pressed through a crowd of people to get to Jesus and reached out to touch His garment thinking that if she could just touch His garment she would be made well. Indeed, after doing so she was healed. In turn Jesus commended her faith and told her to go in peace. The Bible explains that faith can make the impossible possible.
It is impossible to have hope without faith.
Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
It is impossible to please God without faith.
Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
It is impossible to be saved without faith.
Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
I hope you have come to trust Jesus Christ by faith for salvation and that you are walking by faith in Him each day.
