Pastor's Devotion

Mark 10:22, “When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.”

I can’t imagine what it must have felt like for the young man with great wealth to walk away from the riches of heaven. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.’” In 1 Peter 1:3-4 we read, ““Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.” The man was not only idolatrous but he was also just plain dumb. Given the opportunity to trade this worlds fading wealth for the riches of heaven, a no brain option, he chose the fading wealth of the world. You might say he was blind, but that’s what idolatry will do. In his idolatry he turned away from Jesus and was sad. When a person turns away from Jesus the only emotion to feel is sadness. Every man, woman, boy and girl who turns from Jesus will inevitably be sad. It’s the universal emotion of the unredeemed. However, that’s not so for the redeemed. The redeemed will experience nothing but joy. I hope you will be counted among the joyful. There are no tissues to wipe the sad tears streaming down the cheeks of the unsaved in hell.
