Who Do You Say He Is

We answer questions every day. At the drive through we get asked, "Hi, welcome to McDonalds, how can I help you?" While driving down the road we have to answer the question, "Should I go straight or turn right?" At the gas station we have to answer the question, "Am I going to prepay or pay at the pump?" For breakfast we ask, "Will I have cereal or toast and eggs?" Life is filled with questions. Some of the questions we have to answer are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. However, there is one question that our entire life and eternity rests on. In Matthew 16:13-17, Jesus asked two questions. The first question He asked was, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" The second question He asked was exactly like the first with one little exception. He asked, "Who do you say that I am?" The second question was asked to ascertain a specific response about what each person believes in their own heart. This second question is the question that your whole life and eternity rests on.

The same questions are asked of us today. Who do people say that the Son of Man is? If you look at the world you can quickly understand that people have many different views about who Jesus is. Some could care less. Others think Jesus might be a good idea if they had more time. Some think He was a good man. Others think He is the Lord and Savior of the world. Our understanding and conviction of who Jesus is impacts our lives. However, who do you say that Jesus is? This question is asked to ascertain a confession that will change your life. Some of you reading this might be your wife's husband. I could ask others who people say you are. Someone might say, "He is a factory worker." Another might say, "He is a Royals fan." However, if your wife was asked, "Who do you say that he is?" She would say, "He is my husband." Her whole life is built on this confession and relationship. Who do you say Jesus is? If He is your Lord and Savior, your whole life should be built and ordered around your confession and relationship to Jesus.

You would be right to say, "Jesus is my Lord and Savior, the Son of God." You could say, "Jesus is just a figure of the church but does not interfere with my life and home." I would not advise such a confession, but many believe this in their own hearts and minds. Their lives and priorities reflect such belief. In a world of confusion how should you answer? A man by the name of Peter, a follower of Christ, said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." When Peter made this confession Jesus said, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." Who do you say Jesus is? Is He your Lord and Savior? Does your life reflect your confession and belief? Jesus desires a personal relationship with you. He desires each person to have a personal conviction and faith in Him.
