No Longer Afraid

Fear can be debilitating and paralyzing. We can become enslaved by fear. A slave is one who is being controlled by something seemingly more powerful. Consequently, fear has a way of controlling our lives. We can experience fear for many different reasons. We experience fear when pursuing a challenging task or job because we are afraid that we do not possess the ability to meet the challenge. We can experience fear when we deal with certain people. We can experience fear when we have to speak in front of a crowd. One of the biggest fears we can experience in life has to do with death. This particular fear is is mentioned in the Bible in Hebrews 2:14-15. In this passage, there is a reference to those who are subject to slavery all their lives because of the fear of death. Adrian Rogers, one of the greatest preachers of all times, once said, "You can't really live until you are no longer afraid to die." No soldier has entered into conflict without being able to overcome this fear of death. If the fear is not overcome, the mission will not be able to be accomplished. How can we overcome the fear of death? The Hebrews passage explains that Jesus is the answer. He rendered powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil. He rendered the devil powerless so He could free those who have been held by the fear of death. Jesus is the possessor of life and therefore can dispense life to those who call on Him. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die." In another passage in 1 John, the Bible explains that those who have the Son (Jesus) have the life (eternal life). If you do not have a relationship with Jesus there will be fear. Can it be overcome? Certainly! It can be overcome when you place your faith in the Lord Jesus for salvation. If, however, you have a relationship with Jesus then do not be afraid, you will be fine. For you there is no need to be afraid of death because it will be a gateway to life in heaven. Have a great week!
