Never Leave the Faith

1 Timothy 1:3-4, “As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith.”

Paul charged Timothy to preserve the life and well being of the church by confronting false teachers in the church at Ephesus. One basic principle he was to preserve was the Christian life by faith. Christians live by faith and live to spread the message of faith in Christ. Everything we have as Christians comes to us by and through faith in Christ. I remember going to my grandma’s house when I was a boy. Grandma’s house was the source of many great blessings in my life. It was the place I received some wonderful meals and much loving support. God has much to supply us with and none of it can be earned. The blessings and promises of God come to us by faith. We began the Christian journey by faith. We have the hope of heaven by faith. We shall continue by faith. We are to spread the message that salvation comes by faith alone in Christ alone. We must be careful not to replace the joyful life of faith with works. The temptation is to start by faith and continue with works. The Galatians faced this problem. They were striving to finish by works what they started by faith. The moment we exchange our faith for works is the moment we lose our joy and peace. If we work for joy or peace we will never reach a point where we have worked enough. Our hope comes not by what we earn, but by what God mercifully supplies us as we trust in Him by faith. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

May God bless you today as you enjoy all His promises and peace that come by faith in Christ Jesus.
