Three Insights That Change Everything: Hope, Inheritance, and Power

August 15, 2016

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio are officially underway.  You can be sure that for the next several days the Beverlin home will be tuned in to the Olympic games.  The Olympic competitions create some interesting drama and storylines.  We will see records broken, victories won and dreams shattered.  Just the other day United States swimmer, Katie Ledecky, broke her own olympic record in the 400-meter freestyle race.  She broke the record by nearly two seconds.  Every athlete has prepared for this big moment.  They have looked for every competitive advantage that could help them gain an edge over their competition.  Their coaching is exceptional.  Their diet is fine tuned.  Their competition uniform is designed to gain a competitive advantage.  Their training has been analyzed to maximize performance.  The right coaching insight, diet, training, performance analysis, and equipment can make all the difference in the world for these athletes.

What if I told you that there are three key insights that could completely transform your Christian experience and make all the difference in the world for you?  The apostle Paul prayed a very simple and yet profound prayer for the Ephesians in the first chapter of his letter to the church at Ephesus.  In his prayer he mentioned three insights that the eyes of our hearts need to see.  The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:18-19a, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.”  The eyes of every Christian’s heart needs to see how much hope there is in Jesus, the kind of inheritance that awaits the child of God, and the kind of power that is directed toward every believer.  If you look at the entirety of Paul’s ministry, as revealed in the New Testament, you will see that these three insights fueled his life and ministry.  He endured persecution because of the hope of heaven.  He knew that God’s power was made perfect in his weakness.  When we have a grasp on these three insights, hope, inheritance, and power, our Christian experience will be dramatically transformed.  May God Bless and may the eyes of your heart grasp the hope of His calling, the inheritance in the saints, and the greatness of His power directed toward you.
