The Bread of Life

March 10, 2016

Just last week I celebrated another birthday.  One of my family’s traditions is to go out to eat for a birthday celebration.  We play it up big.  There is much talk and anticipation about where we will go eat.  Of course, the birthday boy or girl in our family gets to pick the place.  Since it was my birthday, I got to choose.  My selection was Chicken Annie’s in Pittsburg, Kansas.  The chicken is good, but the one thing I really wanted was some German coleslaw.  I had a craving that was not going to be satisfied with some quick run through any fast food restaurant.  I needed some German coleslaw.  That may sound strange to you, but that was the thing I needed to satisfy my hunger.

We all have cravings in life that need to be satisfied.  We all can try to find fulfillment and satisfaction through many different sources in our life.  There are many activities we could pursue in life to satisfy the emptiness we sometimes experience in life.  However, what we find is that there are many dead end roads in life that lead to disappointment and frustration. We can bury ourselves being so busy that we do not have time to face reality.  However, at the end of every road, every pursuit and every day, we can still be left  wanting more.  Where do we  find this satisfaction in life?  Quite honestly, there is nothing in life that will satisfy like Jesus.  When we come into a relationship with Jesus, the deepest needs of our lives are satisfied.

There are two very overwhelming needs that we all have in life.  First, we will all face death one day.  Second, we all have sinned.  Both of these problems can cause a deep aching in our hearts.  We can experience nagging guilt and the fear of uncertainty as a result of these problems.  Jesus said in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.”  Jesus will satisfy us because He will meet the deepest needs in our life.  Through Him we will find forgiveness of our sins and the promise of a home in heaven.  I hope that you know Jesus as your Savior and Lord.  Only Jesus can truly satisfy.  Have a great week.
